The Enrolled Assistant Nursing programme is a two year programme accredited by the Nursing Council of Jamaica. The Enrolled Assistant Nursing is one who works under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or a medical doctor.

Course Descriptions

ANP210 Anatomy & Physiology (3 credits)
The course is designed to study the structure and function of the body

SO221 Sociology (3 credits)
The course is designed to study the individual, his development and his relationship with the family and other people

PRO223 Professionalism (3 credits)
The course is designed to study the development of nursing, value to the community, the National Health Service, the nursing place in the hospital.  Standards of ethical conduct, personal qualities of a nurse.

PHA211 Pharmacology (3 credits)
The course is designed to study the rules for giving medicines, preparation and measurement of drugs.  Effects and side effect of medication.

FIA111 First Aid (3 credits)
The course is designed to study the aims of first aid treatment, rules for dealing with an emergency

MSN112 Medical/Surgical Nursing (3 credits)
The course is designed to study predisposing causes of ill-health symptoms, signs and treatment of common medical and surgical condition.

CIC213 Care of the infant and child (3 credits)
The course is designed to study the symptoms, signs and treatment of common ailments in infant and children

GER212 Gerontology (3 credits)
The course is designed to study the care of the elderly treatment of common ailments

 NUT113 Nutrition (3 credits)
The course is designed to study the purpose of food, types of food, the food, factors necessary in a well balanced diet and food suitable for infant children, adults and invalids of all ages.

COH114 Community Health (3 credits)
The course is designed to study Public Health services including welfare and other social services.

 FUN224 Fundamentals of Nursing (3 credits)
The course is designed to study Basic Nursing techniques which includes reception and admission of patients, nursing observations, basic nursing practice, special nursing techniques and discharge and transfer of patients

MAC225 Maternal & Childcare (3 credits)
 The course is designed to study the care of the mother, the importance of antenatal care and attendance at an antenatal clinic, personal hygiene and diet in pregnancy. Minor ailment during pregnancy.

GDC226 Growth & Development of the Normal Child (3 credits)
The course is designed to study how the physical and mental development of children is influenced by heredity, nutritional, social and psychological factors.

PSY227 Psychology (3 credits)
The course is designed to study Human relationships and how these influence behaviour and the basic needs and desires of human beings.

PSYC228 Psychiatry (3 credits)
The course is designed to study the maintenance of good mental health in the individual, family and the community. The factors which create stress which may lead to mental breakdown and the importance of the nurse-patient relationship in the care of the mentally disturbed.
